£1.1m pay-off bill for ex-MSPs

POLITICIANS who quit or lost their seats at this year’s Holyrood elections have received more than £1.1 million in pay offs from the taxpayer.

The “resettlement” grants, which had to be found from Scottish Parliament contingency funds, are intended to help ease former MSPs back into everyday life. for more click here

Data crisis hits Scotland as papers go missing

The crisis over the security of personal information spread to Scotland last night when it emerged that confidential documents had gone missing in transit to Glasgow.
The office of Alex Salmond, Scotland’s First Minister, was forced to admit that a package containing printed pension benefit statements dispatched from the Scottish Public Pensions Agency to NHS Greater Glasgow cannot be accounted for. for more click here

Parliamentry Report on the Petition for a Leith Museum

The Convener: PE1083, from John Arthur, calls on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Executive to support the creation of local museums such as the proposed Leith museum. The petition has received 72 signatures.

The Public Petitions Committee must be really popular with members of the Parliament, as we have with us another non-committee member who is keen to engage with us in an open way. Malcolm Chisholm represents the area that would contain the proposed Leith museum. Members have before them a letter from George Foulkes saying that he is supportive of options relating to the proposed Leith museum. Scotland’s budget and spending review

The Scottish Government’s spending plans for the next three years were outlined to MSPs in the Parliament today.

Cabinet Secretary for Finance John Swinney said it was a budget for growth and prosperity.

Salmond: Scotland independent in 10 years

Future of economics in the spotlight

Glasgow wins the Games

Glasgow was today selected as the host city for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Scotland’s bid was preferred by Commonwealth delegates to the one from Abuja in Nigeria.

The final vote in Colombo, Sri Lanka, was 47 for Glasgow and 24 for Abuja.

In Colombo, First Minister Alex Salmond said:

“The Commonwealth Games are coming to Glasgow! We will make these Games the greatest sporting event our country has ever seen. They will be our chance to show the whole world the very best of Scotland. To inspire people to take up a sport or embrace a healthier lifestyle and a chance for our athletes to compete for Scotland on Scottish soil.
