Edinburgh Airport rail link set to be mothballed

Plans that would have seen a new rail link to Edinburgh Airport look set to be mothballed, as questions about its long term future have also been raised.

According to The Scotsman newspaper staff working on the Edinburgh Airport Rail Link (EARL) are likely to be laid off, with more emphasis placed on a tram system for the Scottish capital. for more click here

Day one of tram project and already engineers are warning of overspend

WORK finally started in earnest on Edinburgh’s £600 million tram scheme yesterday - as engineers warned of possible cost overruns.

The first stage of the project is likely to cause serious traffic disruption while underground pipes and cables are diverted over the next 18 months. for more click here

British Airways director on holiday as staff shortage crisis intensifies

A BRITISH Airways director at the centre of an operational crisis due to staff shortages and the scrapping of the carrier’s Scottish workforce has been on holiday abroad during the fiasco.

Geoff Want, director of ground operations at BA, has overseen the outsourcing of 430 check-in and dispatch jobs at Scottish airports and is in charge of baggage handlers at Heathrow, where the backlog of misplaced bags has risen to more than 20,000 in the past week.  for more click here
